"The City of Ember" Novel Study

The City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau will have your students begging you to keep reading. The novel follows the two main characters, Lina and Doon through a riveting tale where everything is not exactly how it seems. Lina and Doon find that they have been living in an underground world, created years earlier by the "Builders" so that a part of the population could escape disaster. This is a great novel for literature circles, a whole-class literature study or simply a read-aloud.

This 37-page novel study integrates all aspects of the reading process into engaging activities. It includes comprehension questions, motivating graphic organizers, writing assignments, parts of speech activities and art integration. Teachers may choose to use some of the activities as a basis for discussion, also.
