"Owls in the Family" Novel Study

"Owls in the Family" by Farley Mowat is a funny, heart-warming story about a boy and his pet owls, Wol and Weeps.

In the years that I have been teaching grade four, this has been a "must-read" in my classroom. Students beg to keep reading and love the fact that the story is based on Farley Mowat's childhood experiences. "Owls in the Family" is an ideal novel for a class novel study, as it engages readers of all ability levels.

"Uglies" by Scott Westerfeld is the first book in Westerfeld's latest series. In the novel, it is standard procedure to have an operation when you are sixteen years old in order to make you beautiful. This novel takes readers on a journey of what happens when one group of teenagers decide that they want to keep their own faces, rather than receive the operation.
